Maguire astonished as Barkley's Aston Villa loan fee revealed

Chelsea have done extraordinarily well to receive an £11million loan fee from Aston Villa for Ross Barkley’s services.

That is according to finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed the figure on Tuesday as well as the fact that Villa CEO Christian Purslow wants to make the switch permanent.

Chelsea are understood to want £35m for the 27-year-old in the summer.

Earlier in March, this site revealed that Villa boss Dean Smith is yet to be convinced by the 33-time England man’s price-tag.

Maguire was stunned by the £11m figure, drawing an eye-opening comparison with Phillipe Coutinho.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Wow. That is very high for a player. They are paying his wages on top of that, remember.

“If you signed him for £35m on a five-year deal, that would give you an amortisation cost of around £7m.

“To contextualise it, Coutinho went on loan to Bayern Munich for a season from Barcelona and the loan fee was around £8m. Coutinho cost Barcelona £142m.

“Normally, you don’t get that much back from a loan deal for a player who has fallen out of favour. This is a superb piece of work from Chelsea.”

Barkley began the season in impressive form and has four goals and one assist in 20 appearances in all competitions.

However, fans have widely agreed that he looks a shadow of his former self since returning from a hamstring injury in January.

In other news, Manchester United are lining up a move for impressive Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez this summer.
