Aston Villa make move for 'marquee' signing who could convince Grealish to stay - Whelan
Aston Villa could convince Jack Grealish to stay this summer with the “marquee” signing of James Ward-Prowse, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Southampton star would be another “mouthwatering” addition at Villa Park.
As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday (June 12th), Villa have made an approach to sign the 26-year-old star amid doubts over Morgan Sanson and Douglas Luiz.
This site (10th June) has also detailed how Grealish has told friends he remains very interested in a move to Manchester City this summer.
However, Whelan suggested Ward-Prowse’s arrival could convince the Villa talisman to stick around.
Wheland told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Well look, they’re gonna have a great side to watch. There’s some entertainers there when you look at their team.

“That forward attacking line is very mouthwatering for any Aston Villa fan. If they get James Ward-Prowse as well, with what he can bring to the midfield area I do wonder where they’re going to fit them all in.
“The question mark is he a replacement, like Buendia, for Jack Grealish? Will Jack be leaving this summer? You make signings like that and Jack will probably want to play alongside these players.
“He’s also an England teammate of Jack Grealish as well so there’s a rapport there already. When you look at Ward-Prowse, he works hard in midfield. He’s not just someone that’s good at set-pieces.
“He tackles, he gets about the field, he’s a worker. He could play alongside Grealish, absolutely no doubt. They’re really pushing the boat to make these marquee signings this summer.”
A graduate of the Southampton youth system, Ward-Prowse has played 322 times for the Saints.
He also has eight England caps under his belt.
