Aston Villa on course to hit the jackpot as Purslow plan revealed - Maguire

Aston Villa would receive a major sponsorship boost if they play a part in hosting a UK and Republic of Ireland-held World Cup in 2030.

That is according to finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s plans for an expanded Villa Park.

The Express and Star reported in March that Villa are planning upgrades to ensure their stadium is part of the bid to host the World Cup.

The same outlet revealed on 1st July that CEO Christian Purslow confirmed plans to expand the stadium at a recent fan consultation meeting.

It has been widely mooted that chaotic scenes at the Euros final at Wembley on 11th July could have an impact on the UK bid to host the Worl Cup.

Maguire articulated why this would be a blow to Villa who could reap sponsorship rewards if the joint bid is successful.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “If Aston Villa are involved, it sends out a signal that they are one of the senior clubs in English football.

“They have the ability to showcase the revised Villa Park and that will be received in a positive light.

“They’ll be able to go to sponsors and say: ‘A) we’re a good football and club and B) we’re a club that’s hosting the World Cup.

“Why wouldn’t you want your product aligned with somewhere that is going to be seen all over the world in terms of the biggest global TV audiences?”
