Aston Villa news: Agbonlahor can't believe Emery could seal Torres reunion
Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Aston Villa should prioritise a “top striker and a top winger” in the summer market before moving for Unai Emery favourite Pau Torres.
The former Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have built a formidable centre-back partnership under the Spaniard.
Sources told this site last week (20 April) that Villarreal are set to offer Torres, 26, a new contract as Aston Villa plot to sign him this summer.
It is believed that the likelihood that the Spain international will leave the Spanish club at the end of the season is growing and Villa are just one of several English clubs to hold an interest.
Torres’ contract at Villarreal is set to expire in June 2024.
He made 105 appearances under Emery at the Spanish club, helping the Yellow Submarine to a famous Europa League triumph in the 2020-21 campaign.

Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa are currently the first-choice pairing at Villa Park – and have conceded just twice in their last nine games.
Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “To be honest, I think Aston Villa are completely fine defensively.
“Mings and Konsa are strong together. They’re both keeping Diego Carlos out of the side, and Chambers is in the mix too as backup.
“I think Emery should look at other positions.
“If Mings got injured then Torres would be a good fit, but I think Villa should be looking at a top winger.
“A top winger and a top striker would be a good window, just in case Ollie Watkins gets injured and the goals dry up.
“You wouldn’t want to rely on Duran for goals, because he’s just a young lad.”
In other news, Emery may axe two established Aston Villa first-teamers.
