Aston Villa eye move for free scoring winger ahead of January window - report

Aston Villa have joined the race to sign Greenock Morton’s goalscoring winger Jai Quitongo, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim the Championship club are tracking the wide man after a his dazzling displays for the Scottish Championship side.

The 19-year-old is out of contract next summer and free to talk to foreign and cross-border clubs in January.

The report says West Ham, Crystal Palace, Swansea and Wigan have also made checks on the pacy forward this season.

Quitongo has excelled this season, scoring six goals from out wide in 20 league and cup appearances for second tier Greenock.

The Daily Mail report that Villa sent scouts to assess Quitongo against Falkirk at the weekend and will watch him in action for Scotland U21s after he was called up to their squad to face Slovenia.

He is also eligible to play for Portugal, who have expressed interest in calling him up for their U21s.

It’s believed that Doncaster had a bid of £100,000 rejected for the highly-rated teenager in the summer, while Wigan, Brighton and Preston have all expressed their desire to bring Quitongo to England.

Morton are desperate to keep their prized asset, but may be forced to allow him to leave.

The winger is the son of former Hamilton, St. Mirren, Kilmarnock and Partick winger Jose Quitongo, who played for 20 different clubs in Scotland, England, Sweden and Portugal.
