Aston Villa plot move for ex-Leeds star Raphinha – sources

Aston Villa are plotting a move to sign Barcelona’s Raphinha this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Unai Emery aims to reinvest the money made from Moussa Diaby’s sale.

Football Insider revealed that Emery wants to sign a “lethal” attacking replacement for Diaby, which is a box that Raphinha ticks.

Given his experience in the Premier League, the 27-year-old is being seen as a potential “really good signing” for Villa.

Even though Villa have secured Jaden Philogene to bolster their attacking options, the club are setting their sights on a “big-money signing.”

Raphina has been playing for the Spanish outfit since joining from Leeds in 2022 and scored 10 goals while also providing 13 assists in 37 games last season.

Aston Villa will face competition in trying to sign Raphinha

Villa are not the only club plotting a move for the Brazil international, as Football Insider revealed that Newcastle United are also monitoring him.

The two Premier League rivals will be battling it out to secure European football, and adding a player of Raphinha’s quality would help.

The winger played 65 times in England’s top flight for Leeds, and his hardworking attitude, being mixed with his flair made him a threat in every game.

Raphinha scored 17 goals and provided 12 assists for Leeds during his previous spell in the Premier League.

West Ham Aston Villa

While Villa are hoping to bolster their attacking options they could also be set to lose a striker this summer.

Football Insider revealed that Jhon Duran is close to joining West Ham following a “huge” offer, with the striker having been frustrated by his lack of game time at Villa Park.
