Why this Aston Villa senior player is missing for the Cardiff clash (not Kodjia) - reliable journalist

By Amir Mir

Mile Jedinak is absent for Aston Villa’s clash against Cardiff on Monday afternoon because of “illness”, according to a reliable journalist.

Birmingham Mail reporter Gregg Evans reported on his personal Twitter account that the club’s senior player is set to miss the crucial Championship fixture.

Now, midfield duo, Ashley Westwood and Gary Gardner have been picked to play in the middle of the park as Villa aim to pick up another three points against Neil Warnock’s men.

The Bluebirds were beaten 3-1 in the reverse fixture when goals from Jonathan Kodjia, Albert Adomah and Rudy Gestede sealed all three points for the club.

Jedinak has been a vital part of Villa’s rise up the Championship table in recent months, following the arrival of Steve Bruce in October.

The 32-year-old was purchased by Bruce’s predecessor, Roberto Di Matteo in the summer from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

He has gone on to play 19 Championship games for the Midlands outfit, providing two assists in the process.

Additionally, the Australian played in Villa’s last league match when Kodjia’s late penalty helped them secure a late draw against promotion rivals Leeds on Thursday evening.

Bruce’s side are currently six points adrift of the play-off places going into this crucial fixture in Wales.

They have picked up seven points from their last three games, including beating Ian Holloway’s QPR on the road last time out.

After their trip to Wales in the Championship, Villa will take on Premier League title chasers Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon in an FA Cup clash.
