Aston Villa should put the past behind them and sign this controversial figure in January

Fabian Delph left Aston Villa in unsavoury terms during the summer of 2015, his actions were so severe that certain supporters may never forgive him.

However, the Villa faithful should put the past behind them and sign the controversial figure in their push for promotion this season.

During the past week, the midfielder has been reportedly touted for a move back to the Midlands which has seen the debate rage of whether he would be welcomed back.

The 27-year-old signed a new contract at Villa in January 2015, then turned down a move to Manchester City in the summer and in tune publicly pledged his loyalty to the club – many days later he made the switch to the Etihad.

The manner in which Delph moved incensed fans as they found his actions to be disrespectful towards the club and its supporters.

However, nearly two years down the line, Villa are now a Championship club currently struggling to reach the top-tier.

They are in need of an energetic, forward thinking midfielder, a bill which Delph suits perfectly and the reason why Steve Bruce should sign him during this transfer window.

Delph has barely featured for Pep Guardiola’s side this season, making only four appearances in all competitions and starting only once during a Champions League qualifier in August.

A loan move for the England international would be the most likely option if he were to become available.

Not only that, it would help Bruce close the gap on the top six and fill in the mixing jigsaws in his side as he still has not worked out his best XI, despite joining the club in mid-October.

One of those reasons is down to the poor quality in the team and there is no doubt that the inclusion of Delph would be a massive upgrade on what the club already has.

In other Aston Villa news, these five players could leave in January as there is interest in this attacking trio.
