Bailey told 'pack it in' after confirmed Aston Villa news Smith will hate - Kenny

Leon Bailey should concentrate on keeping himself fit for Aston Villa rather than his adventures with the Jamaica national team.

So says ex-Republic of Ireland shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old Villa winger.

Jamaica confirmed on 2 November that Bailey had been called up to their 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers against El Salvador and the USA.

It is the first time the whippet-quick wide man has been included in the squad since his £25million move to Villa from Bayer Leverkusen in August.

Bailey has struggled with his fitness since arriving in Birmingham and has made just one start in all competitions for Dean Smith’s side.

And Kenny fears that he runs the risk of aggravating his recurrent hamstring problem while away with the national team.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “He has a lot of injuries and he’s only just got back to fitness.

“Ideally, for me, he should pack it in and concentrate on what he’s doing for his club.

“Rather than going all over the world, concentrate on keeping yourself fit, strengthening yourself so you don’t break down again.

“It is frustrating for the club when they are praying that they don’t come back from international duty with another injury.

“If I was the manager, I’d be disappointed that he’s gone. It’s a shame because he’s looked good when I’ve seen him play for them.
