Hutton drools over Cantwell as yet another Aston Villa deal all but done

Todd Cantwell is an “incredibly impressive” player and the “fans will love him” if he signs for Aston Villa this summer.

So says ex-Villa favourite Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 23-year-old Norwich City midfielder.

This site first broke news on 21st July that Villa were in advanced talks to sign Cantwell, who is under contract at Carrow Road until next summer.

Football Insider revealed today (2nd August) that Leon Bailey is undergoing an overseas medical ahead of a move to Villa worth £35million including add-ons.

The Bayer Leverkusen winger will be the Midlands side’s second £30m-plus capture of the window after Emiliano Buendia in early June.

Hutton is excited about the calibre of player the Villains are targeting and insists that Cantwell would be a roaring success for Dean Smith’s side.

“The standard of players that they are looking at now is incredibly impressive,” he told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“We know Emile Smith Rowe signed a new contract at Arsenal, but he’s another one who they were looking at to get them to that next level.

“With Todd Cantwell, he’s played in the Premiership and he was a standout in the Championship.

“He can create things, score goals. He’s got everything there to be a top, top player. Every year, he is slowly but surely getting even better.

“You want to bring guys in like that. They are the ones who you can improve and who are going to be competition for the players already there.

“I’m sure he’ll be one that the fans will love as well.”
