Pundit hails 'perfect' Aston Villa transfer work amid Ward-Prowse update

Aston Villa have been busy in the transfer market so far and are wise to get their business done as early as possible.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Villa’s window so far.

They are working on a deal for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse and, as revealed by this site on 2nd July, have been given encouragement by third parties.

Ward-Prowse, 26, is contracted to Aston Villa until 2025.

The club have already finalised the signings of Argentine playmaker Emiliano Buendia and veteran wing-back Ashley Young.

Kenny hailed Villa’s approach and claimed it will stand them in good stead as they kick off their pre-season preparations.

“I think it’s smart that they are looking to do things early,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“That is a definite for me, I really agree with it. There’s nothing worse than getting back to pre-season, having three or four weeks and then still trying to sign players.

“When they come in, you don’t know how they’ve been training. This way, you know from day one how they’ve been doing.

“Everyone gets to meet everyone and you need them to gell on a personal level in the dressing room as a well.

“It’s only a short pre-season this time. So getting all your business done early like Ward-Prowse is perfect.”

As first reported by Football Insider on 21st June, Villa made a second bid of £30million for Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.

Their approach for the 20-year-old was knocked back by the Gunners.
