Attacker available for reported £44m delivers exciting verdict when probed over Tottenham move
Celta Vigo attacker Maxi Gomez has refused to rule out a move to Tottenham when probed over a potential move to the north London side as he hints at a future move to England.
The 21-year-old striker has been in impressive form this season, netting 14 goals in 27 appearances in Spain’s top flight, which has seen him pick up his first two caps for Uruguay, making his international debut back in November 2017.
With Spanish publication AS claiming that the forward has a release clause of £44million (€50million), his capture would not be a cheap one, but he has given an exciting verdict over him eyeing up a move to England in the near future, and did not rule out Tottenham as a potential destination when asked directly about Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
He told AS: I try to watch a lot of football and learn from the greats. We are here for that.
“The truth is that the English league is very nice. It is stronger, more powerful. It would be good to go there.”
Gomez only arrived at Celta Vigo last summer, signing from Uruguay outfit Defensor, and has a contract which runs until 2022.
Football Insider verdict
A year in Europe and there is already talk of a move to one of England’s biggest club for Gomez, and he is ambitious enough not to brush it off as rumours and hearsay. He might have his eyes on the biggest prize but unless Celta are willing to accept less than the release clause in his contract, he may well have to continue to prove himself in Spain before securing a move to England. Still, if he continues to score at the rate he has been doing, he should have no issue in warranting his £44million price tag and maybe in two or three years, someone will snap him up. For now though, he needs to keep banging in the goals and forget about a potential move.
In other Tottenham news, forget Harry Kane, this midfield gem is the most improved man at the club this season.
