Ayoze Perez delivers Twitter verdict after Newcastle win v Aston Villa

By Danny Wright

Ayoze Perez took to Twitter on Monday night to praise the Newcastle supporters after their 2-0 home win over Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old dubbed it ‘Black and White Monday’ as Yoan Gouffran and a Henri Lansbury own-goal secured all three points for the Toon, sending them back to the top of the Championship table.

Over 50,000 people filled St. James’ Park for the clash between two of the relegated clubs from last season’s Premier League.

Speaking on his personal Twitter page, Perez said: “Blue Monday? No! Black and White Monday. Amazing St. James tonight. Howay the lads.”

The victory was crucial for Rafa Benitez’s side as not only did it put them top of the league, it also saw them move eight points clear of third-placed Huddersfield in the race for the automatic promotion spots.

David Wagner’s side have made up a lot of ground on Newcastle and Brighton in the top two automatic promotion places in recent weeks and have won all of their last five league games.

They now have a game in hand over Brighton and Newcastle as they played in the FA Cup on Saturday, holding Man City to a very creditable 0-0 draw.

Perez was an unused sub in the win over Villa but he has made 30 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions this season scoring eight goals and picking up six assists.

The Spaniard put in a man of the match display last Tuesday when he scored and set up another in the 2-2 draw with Norwich.
