Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez has refused to rule out that there was a training ground punch-up between Jamaal Lascelles and Mohamed Diame on Thursday.
The Daily Mail has claimed that Magpies captain Lascelles accused Diame of being “lazy” before the duo ended up exchanging punches, which led to Jonjo Shelvey suffering a broken hand as he attempted to calm down the situation.
It is understood that although Shelvey’s left hand is in a cast, he may be available to play when Newcastle take on Southampton next week as Premier League action resumes.
Perez has suggested that this sort of incident is something that isn’t new to any football club, but has steered clear of talking too much about the altercation when asked.
“Well, I am not going to comment about that. It is something that happens in every English team,” Perez said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“We have a great dressing room and a great spirit. It’s nothing important. We have a lot of desire to improve and we have a lot of commitment.”
Perez has been ever-present for Newcastle this season, starting each of their seven Premier League fixtures in his usual No 10 role behind the striker.
He is yet to score this term, but has supplied one assist which came in the 3-0 win against West Ham in late August.
