Balague reveals truth behind reported Poch-Barca meet, Tottenham fans will be delighted
By Will Butcher
Guillem Balague has claimed that the supposed meeting between Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu earlier this week was a coincidence.
ESPN had reported that the two met in the Spanish city of Barcelona at a restaurant with Tottenham fully aware of the situation, as Pochettino continues to be linked with the Barca job.
However, Spanish football expert Balague states that the two met by chance, with no meeting actually planned.
Pochettino and Bartomeu, who have known each for 15 years because their children attended the same school, exchanged a quick greet and hug at the restaurant, according to the Spanish football expert.
Balague stated on his personal Twitter account that the news was a “non-story”.
Fans will be delighted to hear Balague’s update, after Enrique revealed at the start of March that he was to relinquish his duties as manager of the Spanish giants at the end of the season.
It has been widely reported that former Southampton and Espanyol manager Pochettino was being targeted as the man to replace Enrique as his managerial stock continues to soar.
But with the reported meeting played down by Balague between Pochettino and Bartomeu, Spurs fans will have restored their confidence in keeping the Argentinian at White Hart Lane.
Pochettino will resume his position in the dugout on April 1 after the international break, as Spurs travel to Lancashire to face a tricky test in Sean Dyche’s Burnley at Turf Moor.
In other Tottenham news, Eric Dier has revealed that the north London outfit will miss this in-form ace after receiving a shattering blow concerning his future availability.
