One of the most ludicrous Celtic transfer suggestions that has been touted recently in the press has come from Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan.
The Scotland international claims, as quoted by the Daily Record, that he is surprised that the Hoops haven’t made an effort to sign Steven Naismith.
No offence to Naismith, who has had a good career and will no doubt prove to be an astute signing for Hearts, but really what are the chances that the Hoops would sign a player who is 31-years-old and spent five years playing for Rangers? The answer to that: slim and none.
Bannan must know that the move was never going to happen in a million years, perhaps he has spent too long playing down south and forgotten about how bitter the Old Firm rivalry can be.
To briefly be fair to Bannan, there is the rare exception to the rule like Kenny Miller, who has played for both sides of the Old Firm divide with distinction, or going back further Mo Johnston, who was also a success with both teams.
There is more chance of Henrik Larsson returning to Celtic to play up-front than there is of Steven Naismith ever joining the Hoops.
