Former Everton midfielder Joey Barton was quick to respond to Everton’s latest away day defeat.
The Toffees fell to a 2-1 loss away at Turf Moor against Burnley on Saturday in the Premier League despite having taken the lead in the game through Cenk Tosun.
It was a result that had supporters of the club venting on social media and Barton wasn’t one to shy away from controversy and sent a sarcastic Tweet saying ‘There’s only one David Unsworth.’
There’s only one David Unsworth…
— Joey Barton (@Joey7Barton) March 3, 2018
It quickly led to a Twitter spat as supporters of the Goodison Park outfit reacted mostly angrily to his message on the social media platform.
When David Unsworth took temporary charge of affairs in Merseyside following Ronald Koeman’s sacking, Barton publicly blasted the club and urged them not to give the role to the ex-defender due to his lack of experience at the top-level.
But after seeing how disastrous the performances have been since Sam Allardyce took the position, he’s seemingly changed his mind.
Football Insider verdict:
While Barton isn’t suggesting that Unsworth is the answer, his Tweet would suggest he thinks it’s only a matter of time before the club makes a change and that they perhaps regret choosing Allardyce over the U23 manager. Pressure seems to be mounting on Big Sam and there has been speculation that he will be shown the exit door in the summer. Fans are unhappy with the former England manager’s tactics and have seen no improvement at the club despite the £200million outlay that Farhad Moshiri has ploughed into the club. It’s beginning to look as though time will be up for Allardyce in the summer.
