BBC journalist David Ornstein has named two players that Arsenal are reportedly fighting to sign on deadline day.
The prominent Arsenal journalist has claimed that they have been looking at signing Chelsea defender David Luiz as part of their deal for Olivier Giroud.
The other player is Roma’s Kostas Manolas, the 26-year-old Greek centre-back.
Ornstein says that it would be “one or the other” and not both, and that he has no idea if Arsenal will be able to get one of them over the line.
He also made it clear that this wasn’t “concrete” information but names that he had heard.
He made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Wednesday afternoon.

This comes on the back of a tweet from Guillem Balague who also claimed that Arsenal were working to get a deal over the line.

Football Insider verdict:
Using a bit of detective work, and these tweets from ultra-reliable journalists, it’s possible to extrapolate and say that it could be Luiz who was the one that didn’t work out because of money. His wages would be sky high and it seems that Chelsea are about to announce Giroud with no mention of anyone going in the other direction. Manolas is far more interesting. At 26 he’s got plenty of years left in the tank and has 33 caps for Greece. He signed for Roma for £12m around three years ago but is contracted until 2022 and is a mainstay in the Roma team. Wenger is obviously concerned about his defence if these two names are accurate, but it just leaves one question: why has he left it so late. Again?
