BBC pundit: This is the big question for Rodgers ahead of Celtic clash v St. Johnstone
By Harvey Byrne
BBC pundit and former Scotland striker Steven Thompson believes the big question for Brendan Rodgers this weekend will be whether he rests players from his Celtic side this weekend.
The Hoops have already won the Premiership title with games to spare and their attentions will now be on the Scottish Cup final at the end of May against Aberdeen.
However, the Glasgow giants are also close to going the entirety of the 2016-17 campaign unbeaten and there is just four games left for them to complete a fantastic achievement.
Their next game will see them host fourth place St. Johnstone at Celtic Park and Thompson believes Rodgers has a big decision to make on who he selects.
“Over two years they’ve not lost a game post split,” started Thompson speaking on BBC Sport Scotland in regards to St. Johnstone’s impressive record.

“I think it’s 11 games, which is incredible because they’ve had to face Celtic twice in that time and all the other teams that are in the top six.
“But, I can’t see them winning tomorrow. The big question for me, for Brendan Rodgers is does he make the changes.
“He said he might with the lead up to to this cup final because he wants his best players. Scott Brown’s out I think. Resting Lustig, but he has brought other players in and out at times throughout the year.
“But, for me I wouldn’t. If I was leading up to the cup final I wouldn’t want to be out of the team. Winning all of the time is a great feeling. It’s only two weeks away. I want to be playing, I want to be sharp. Whether he uses it as an opportunity to rest players I don’t know. A lot of the players are young, they don’t need a rest, they haven’t played a massive amount of games.
“But, I think that’s going to be interesting tomorrow. Of course you’ve got the unbeaten run. Now only four games left to complete what would be, I don’t think it will ever be repeated if they do it. I honestly don’t. I think throughout the course of a season you’re going to lose a game somewhere a long the lines, so to do it would be an unbelievable feat and I think that’s the focus before the cup final.”
Midfield lynch pin and club captain Scott Brown will of course miss the weekend’s match after picking up a two-match suspension.
Meanwhile, star striker and top goalscorer Moussa Dembele will also be sitting out of the encounter due to injury.
But, other than Dembele and Brown, Rodgers is likely to have a full squad to choose from and he now has to decide whether to rest his star players or keep them in the team to keep the unbeaten run going.
