BBC Scotland pundit Steven Thompson has claimed there is more chance of Rangers signing Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva than there is of landing Spanish striker Fernando Torres as part of Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution.
Leiva and Torres have both been named as potential signings for the Gers when Gerrard takes the reins on June 1st but Thompson doesn’t seemingly think there is much chance of either coming to Ibrox.
“There’s a better chance of him joining Rangers than ‘Jonny’ Torres,” Thompson said during Sportscene’s Facebook Live broadcast.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers fans would probably settle for signing one or the other and likely wouldn’t mind too much which one it is. If the Gers get Torres then they get one of the best strikers of his generation fresh off lifting the Europa League. If they sign Lucas then they get a player who has everything you could want from a central midfielder after enjoying a fantastic season with Lazio in Serie A. Both would be massive improvements on what is currently in the Gers squad and help take Gerrard’s side a step closer to stopping Celtic from winning an eighth successive title. Gers fans would no doubt love to see both at Ibrox and as ridiculous as Thompson seems to think signing either might be, after spending so long following the Old Firm then there is nothing that would come as a massive surprise when it comes to Rangers and Celtic.
