By Emma Sanders

Alan Shearer has hailed the performance of Everton youngster Tom Davies following his performance against Manchester City.

The BBC pundit has claimed Everton’s midfielder made City’s players look “very average” and he described his performance as simply “superb.”

Davies made his second league start of the season against City and his 10th appearance in an Everton shirt but he did not look out of place as his side thrashed Manchester City 4-0.

The youngster was one of Everton’s best performers and he scored a sensational goal after producing a piece of delightful skill to beat two defenders before laying the ball off only to receive it seconds later.

He was then able to chip the ball over the on-coming Claudio Bravo in City’s goal and ensure his side went 3-0 up in the 79th minute after being involved in the first goal too.

“He made superstars in that Manchester City midfield look very, very average. For 18-years-old, he was just superb,” Shearer told BBC programme Match of the Day 2 on Sunday night.

Davies also cleared a ball off the line following a header from Bacary Sagna in the first half and he performed at a high level throughout the entire 90 minutes.

It was an assured display from Davies and it is not expected to be his last after impressing on each of his performances in the first team so far.
