BBC Radio Leeds pundit Noel Whelan has claimed that he will be shocked if Paul Heckingbottom decides to not start Samuel Saiz in Leeds United’s meeting with Brentford at Elland Road on Saturday.
Saiz, 27, made his first appearance since coming back from a six-game ban in the 2-2 draw at Derby on Wednesday.
Heckingbottom only named the Spanish playmaker on the bench, but he was introduced in the second-half with great effect as he played in Ezgjan Alioski to score.
Now, former Leeds player Whelan has made it clear that he strongly believes Saiz will be in the starting line-up against Dean Smith’s Brentford.
Saiz has arguably been Leeds’ best player this season and is without doubt the best signing that director of football Victor Orta has made in West Yorkshire.
The Spaniard has made 26 appearances in all competitions for the Whites, scoring nine goals and supplying six assists in the process.
Saiz had been on the sidelines for almost two months after spitting at a Newport County player in the FA Cup Third Round defeat at Rodney Parade in January.
He is most likely to play in the No 10 role behind Pierre-Michel Lasogga against Brentford as United aim to pick up their first win since 2018 and their first win under Heckingbottom’s leadership.
