'Really good acquisition' - Michael Stewart raves about Rangers January signing
BBC Scotland pundit Michael Stewart believes Jamie Murphy is proving to be a “really good acquisition” by Rangers after scoring one and setting up three more goals in the Gers’ 5-3 win over Hamilton.
Murphy joined the Light Blues from Brighton on loan in January and has scored twice and set up five goals in his seven appearances for the Gers.
Fans have been impressed with Murphy’s performances since arriving despite his lack of game-time in the first-half of the season at Brighton.
Stewart was impressed with the 28-year-old’s performance against Hamilton and singled the former Motherwell star out for praise afterwards.
“When you look at the dynamic at the top end of the park, they’ve got energy, legs, and people who can put the ball in the back of the net,” Stewart said on BBC Scotland’s Sportscene
“Jamie Murphy is looking like a really good acquisition, he was in top form, Windass as well.
“Hamilton didn’t track them, but those driving runs through the middle of the park from Windass and Murphy were very good play from Rangers, making it difficult for the opposition.”
Murphy will complete a permanent move to Ibrox in the summer after his initial loan stint at Ibrox.
The winger started his senior career with Motherwell before heading south to join Sheffield United in 2013.
After two years with the Blades, Murphy signed for Brighton in a £2million move and helped the Seagulls win promotion to the Premier League last season.
Despite being a big part of the side who won promotion from the Championship. Murphy found himself on the sidelines this season.
The boyhood Rangers fan has immediately become a key part of Graeme Murty’s side as they look to secure second in the Scottish Premiership and close the gap to league leaders Celtic.
