BBC pundit predicts Tottenham v Chelsea

By Emma Sanders

BBC Match of the Day 2 pundit Matthew Upson has claimed Chelsea have “nothing to fear” despite facing an important clash against Tottenham on Wednesday.

The former England international stated January’s Premier League fixtures against Tottenham and Liverpool would not send fears through the Chelsea ranks because they have no European competition.

Upson believes Chelsea have the upper hand against their London rivals because they are not in the Champions League and it will play a huge part in the title race this season.

“Big month [for Chelsea.] They have absolutely nothing to fear. They are so fresh compared to other teams who are in European competitions,” said Upson, as quoted by the Daily Star.

“It has to be a factor this season. They can field the same eleven every week and it gives the manager so much time to work with on the training ground. They look like they could go into any game with great confidence.”

Chelsea travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham on Wednesday and they will then face another tough encounter against Liverpool at Anfield at the end of the month.

Antonio Conte’s side have dominated in recent months and have not lost a game in the league since suffering a 3-0 defeat against Arsenal.

They took their unbeaten run to 13 games with victory against Stoke on Saturday and Chelsea are currently six points clear at the top of the table.

Spurs sit in fourth place, 10 points off Chelsea, after a brace each from Dele Alli and Harry Kane helped them thrash Watford 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Out of the teams in the current top six, only Arsenal and Manchester City are left in the Champions League but Tottenham still face Europa League action, while Chelsea and Liverpool do not.
