BBC Sport pundit wowed by ‘fantastic’ Man City star who ‘sacrificed himself’ vs Arsenal

Manchester City had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday night, thanks to Gabriel Martinelli’s late equaliser.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta revealed that Noni Madueke suffered an injury against Man City on 21 September.

The Etihad Stadium outfit took a first-half lead through Erling Haaland, but Martinelli’s stoppage-time goal ensured that Arsenal had the last say.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola chose to sub Haaland off in the second half, which was questioned by Sky Sports co-commentator Gary Neville.

Jeremy Doku receives praise for what he did for Man City vs Arsenal

Amid Man City’s ongoing Premier League campaign, Haaland is prepared to snub Barcelona and Real Madrid’s interest.

Meanwhile, speaking about Jeremy Doku’s performance on BBC Radio 5 Live on 21 September, former England goalkeeper Rob Green said: “Doku has done a fantastic job.

“It’s not been what he would have wanted to do, he’s not been as close to the goal as he would have wanted, but he has broken the game up from high up the pitch.

“He has sacrificed himself to get the team up the pitch.”

The winger was subbed off for Savinho in the 87th minute, as Guardiola unsuccessfully tried to maintain his side’s lead.

Pep Guardiola needs Jeremy Doku to retain his current form

Green is right to outline that Doku performed well for Man City against Arsenal, despite failing to notch a goal or an assist in the vital clash with the Gunners.

Doku is on good form

The 23-year-old has never scored more than three goals in a Premier League season, but he showed how clinical he can be when he scored in Man City’s win over Napoli in the Champions League.

He has also produced two assists in five top-flight appearances this term, while he notched two goals in three Club World Cup outings in the summer.

Man City appear unlikely to catch up with Premier League leaders Liverpool, who now sit eight points above Guardiola’s men, but if Doku can maintain his current form, it will certainly help the Etihad Stadium outfit’s cause.

The North West side will now turn their attention to their Carabao Cup clash with League One outfit Huddersfield Town on Wednesday, 24 September.
