‘Been to jail for less’ – Fans react to latest footage of Joelinton ‘cheating’ in Liverpool 4-2 to win against Newcastle

Fans of all clubs were stunned that Newcastle midfielder Joelinton did not get sent off in their defeat to Liverpool on Monday night (1 January).

The latest Sky Sports footage showed the Brazilian blatantly pull Dominik Szoboszlai to the ground as the Reds looked to counter in the 43rd minute, but was not cautioned because referee Anthony Taylor played advantage.

He committed numerous fouls across the clash and only faced a yellow when for a wild tackle on Ibrahima Konate which launched the centre-back into the air in the 66th minute.

The Reds cruised to a 4-2 victory in one of the most dominant attacking displays in recent Premier League history, but the score line could have been even more damaging for the Magpies with Liverpool registering 7.11 expected goals.

A brace from Mohamed Salah and strikes from Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones secured the win and put Liverpool three points clear of second-place Aston Villa.

Newcastle goals from Alexander Isak and Sven Botman proved futile in the grand scheme of the match and the loss, their third in a row in the Premier League, left them ninth in the table.

The clash came with plenty of controversy, including Diogo Jota’s contentious penalty call in the closing stages of the game, but Liverpool fans and neutrals alike did not forget Joelinton’s “shocking” antics.

They have taken to social media and are baffled that he did have to take the lonely walk to the dressing room.
