Kieran Tierney delivers verdict on Celtic replacements for injured senior duo
Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney believes that the players who come into replace the injured duo of Craig Gordon and Leigh Griffiths are more than capable of doing a good job for the side.
Gordon suffered what looks to be a bad knee injury and Griffiths had a recurrence of his calf issues in the Hoops’ 1-0 victory over Hibernian on Saturday.
Both senior players look set to miss a significant period of time, beginning with Tuesday’s match against Hearts, but despite admitting that the injuries are a blow, Tierney is confident that whoever replaces Gordon and Griffiths will be up to the task.
“Whoever steps in we believe in them”, he said as quoted by the official Celtic website.
“Everyone is the squad have proved their worth before and that’s why you have a big squad as at times you are going to need it, and it’s great for us we have the depth in every position.”
Dorus de Vries is set to replace Gordon with Odsonne Edouard or Moussa Dembele likely to replace Griffiths.
The Hoops go into the game against Hearts with an 11 point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table following the victory over Neil Lennon’s Hibernian side.
Tierney and his team-mates will be looking for revenge for the only defeat suffered by the Hoops so far this season, the 4-0 loss at Tynecastle in December, a match which saw the end of the Hoops’ unbeaten domestic run at 69 games.
Since the defeat the Bhoys have responded well, winning five league games out of their last six, and will want to right the wrong which occurred at Tynecastle.
