‘Belongs in League One’ – Nottingham Fans erupt at starter despite win vs Utrecht, he ‘offers nothing’
Nottingham Forest supporters were left extremely frustrated by one player despite beating Utrecht in the Europa League on Thursday.
Oleksandr Zinchenko missed a gilt-edge chance to put the Reds ahead on 11 December, with Sean Dyche‘s side being forced to wait until the 52nd minute for Arnaud Kalimuendo to score.
Mike van der Hoorn equalised in the 73rd minute, with the Premier League side in dire need of in-form striker, Igor Jesus, to net the winner just two minutes before the 90 minutes were up.
Numerous changes had been made to the starting lineup, with Douglas Luiz returning from injury, with both Neco Williams and Nicolo Savona benched, but Dan Ndoye managed to keep his spot in the team.
Dan Ndoye destroyed after another poor Nottingham Forest display
The 25-year-old winger has been under pressure to impress, having not recorded a goal contribution in his last 12 games across all competitions, but he was of no use against Utrecht.
Multiple supporters were frustrated by the player’s performance, with one even suggesting that he “belongs in League One” despite spending £40million on his signature.
Fans are calling for the Switzerland international to be axed ahead of facing Tottenham on Sunday, 14 December, and it is certainly no surprise after delving into his stats in the Netherlands.
- @hannahforest: “Ndoye must be dropped. He offers nothing at all. He would be no good as a sub, either.”
- @pearsanio: “To say we started with 9 men on the pitch, that was extremely impressive. Ndoye and McAtee, fantastic for Utrecht tonight.”
- @adamwiklo: “Ndoye is very concerning. Another 90 mins and he was below par again, except for the header at the end. Surprised Bakwa didn’t get 15/20.”
Just how bad was Ndoye against Utrecht?
Somehow managing the full 90 minutes, supporters were baffled by Dyche’s decision not to substitute Ndoye, especially with Dilane Bakwa back from injury and in need of minutes on the pitch.
He created just one chance, only registered a 33 per cent shot accuracy, missed a big chance, was dispossessed four times, was dribbled past once, and lost 71 per cent of his ground duels [FotMob].
Even with Elliot Anderson, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Jesus all being brought on, the winger survived the axe, even failing to score in the closing stages, albeit his saved effort was fired home for the winner.
If Ndoye is going to be up against one of Spurs’ many talented full-backs, Forest will already be at a disadvantage at the City Ground, and Dyche simply can’t afford that.
Thomas Frank‘s side appears to have a bit of a purple patch, so the Reds need all the help they can get.
