Newcastle blow as 24-year-old speed machine ruled out of clash v Huddersfield

By Aramide Oladipo

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that full-back DeAndre Yedlin is ruled out of this weekend’s Premier League match.

The 24-year-old will miss the visit to the Kirkless Stadium as the Magpies take on fellow newly-promoted side Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon due to a hamstring injury which he suffered during pre-season.

The full-back, who is renowned for his explosive pace, was also unavailable for the Tyneside club for the opening day league defeat against Tottenham last Sunday at St James’ Park.

The defender endured a similar type of injury last season which saw him miss six Championship matches.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Benitez mentioned that the team will need to find solutions in defence for the league clash due to Yedlin’s absence.

“DeAndre can’t play,” he said.

“We don’t have too many options and that is the reality, and we have to be sure as a team we work together.

“We have to find solutions to every problem because will inevitably get more problems later in the season. It’s important to understand the team has to work together in defence and in attack.”

Newcastle are set to struggle with their back-four this weekend as new signing Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett picked up injuries against Spurs last weekend.

Yedlin will be a loss as he enjoyed a fine debut campaign with the Magpies last season, featuring in 32 matches and contributing with six assists in all competitions.

The American’s performances helped Newcastle secure automatic promotion to the top-flight as champions of the division.

Yedlin has only made a total of 24 appearances in the Premier League during his spells with Tottenham and arch rivals Sunderland.

In other Newcastle news, the Magpies have received a response after they tabled a bid for this Serie A forward.
