Dimitar Berbatov believes that silverware is the only thing missing at Tottenham and that they have all the tools in their squad to press ahead to reach the next level.
Mauricio Pochettino has assembled a formidable squad and most fans feel it’s their best in recent history, with the club competing for the Premier League title in the past two seasons.
However, Spurs have still not won a piece of silverware since the 2008 League Cup when they beat Chelsea 2-1 in the final.
Berbatov was one of the goalscorers in the final success and the former Spurs striker feels that a cup is the only thing missing from the current team.
“Spurs are a better team than when I was there. But don’t forget we won the cup (League Cup in 2007/08) then,” Berbatov told Goal. “Now they have a new training ground, they are building a new stadium, have good players… the only thing missing is a cup.
“They have developed so much over the years, which speaks a great deal for the desire to be among the best clubs, and I think with some more consistency they will be there soon. They have all the tools to achieve this.”
Spurs will be looking to end their trophy drought this season and make an impact in both domestic and European competition.
The likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli are set to play key roles once again, while Pochettino also strengthened his squad during the summer window.
Davinson Sanchez, Serge Aurier, Fernando Llorente, Juan Foyth and Paulo Gazzaniga have all arrived at the club hoping to make an immediate impact.
Spurs are having to balance using Wembley Stadium as their temporary home this season and they picked up just one point from their opening two home matches this season.
They travel to Everton on Saturday as Premier League football returns, with their next home tie against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League next Wednesday.
In other Tottenham news, Jamie Redknapp has issued a warning about the club’s star player.
