Betting latest: Tottenham in running to sign 24-year-old PL defender (not Maguire or Keane)
By Amir Mir
Tottenham are in the running to sign Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson, according to the latest betting odds.
Leading bookmaker Sky Bet have placed odds of 9/2 for the 24-year-old defender to join Spurs with Chelsea leading the race for his signature.
The Premier League champions are priced at 7/4 to sign the highly-rated player who suffered relegation with his side this season.
Gibson was an ever-present figure for a Boro team that was fairly strong in defence but lacked quality in the final third as they went straight back down to the Championship.
The North East club finished second from bottom, scoring only 27 goals throughout the campaign and conceding 53 from the other end.

Gibson’s current deal at the Riverside Stadium is due to expire in 2021 as there will be a lot of teams vying for his signature in the summer.
There is no doubt that his reputation levels would have enhanced when he earned a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup qualifier in March.
Gibson wasn’t given any game time during the win against Lithuania but he has represented England at the under-21 level on ten occasions.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side finished off the campaign as runners-up added with the fact that they recorded the best defence in the league.
They conceded only 26 goals from their 38 matches, with Premier League winners Chelsea shipping seven more goals.
They have also been linked with signing Burnley’s Michael Keane and Hull City’s Harry Maguire.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club could be vulnerable to losing four players after a grandstand finish.
