Middlesbrough have been installed as clear favourites to sign Nottingham Forest attacker Britt Assombalonga, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
SkyBet have priced the 24-year-old at 8/13 to seal to a move to the Riverside Stadium before the transfer window slams shut on September 3.
Nottingham Forest are priced at a distant 2/1 to retain the services of their star goalscorer beyond the current transfer period, while Premier League outfit Burnley are the next best-priced at 8/1.
Assombalonga was in impressive form for Nottingham Forest during the 2016-17 season, scoring 14 goals from 33 appearances in all competitions as the club retained their Championship status.
However, their regular flirtations with relegation over the course of the season could see several of their most prized assets seek fresh challenges, and Assombalonga has emerged as a summer target for rivals Middlesbrough.
Sky Sports had claimed in their transfer centre blog on Tuesday 13 June that newly-appointed manager Garry Monk was interested in making the Forest goalscorer his first summer signing.
Middlesbrough struggled for goals during their ill-fated Premier League campaign last term, and their firepower in the final third will be an item high on the agenda for Monk ahead of their 2017-18 season in the second-tier.
They scored a league low of just 27 goals from their 38 matches, despite signing two new attackers in the winter in Patrick Bamford and Rudy Gestede.
In other Nottingham Forest transfer news, the club have confirmed a strike has signed a deal at the club.
