Betting update: Everton installed odds-on favourites to sign PL assist king, next best priced is 9/1

By Alex Stevens

Everton have installed odds-on favourites to sign Swansea assist king Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Sky Bet price the Merseyside club at 5/6 to prise the Iceland international from the Liberty Stadium before the closure of the forthcoming window.

Everton are well ahead of the next placed club in the betting, former favourites West Ham (9/1) as well as Newcastle (11/1) and Southampton (14/1).

The odds have been slashed on Everton pushing through the deal last week, when the bookies priced the club at 11/4 to land the player regarded as Swansea’s prize asset.

This comes amid reports that the Toffees are prepared to splash the cash on assist king Sigurdsson and offer him wages of up to £140,000-a-week.

Sigurdsson has had an outstanding campaign, scoring eight goals and supplying 12 assists from 35 Premier League matches.

Only Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City has provided more assists in the Premier League in 2017-18 with his tally of 13.

Football Insider verdict:

This betting update should have Everton fans salivating with anticipation. It is a strong sign that Everton are in pole position to wrap up the signing of one of the Premier League’s most creative players. It is testament to Sigurdsson’s pedigree that he has shone for Swansea during their relegation battle, and has almost single-handedly revived their fortunes under new boss Paul Clement. However, it appears he is ready to depart the club for a second time, particularly if Swansea are relegated. Sigurdsson and Everton appear to be a very good fit.

In other Everton transfer news, the club have agreed to sign up a centre-forward who is loved by Ronald Koeman.
