Bielsa plots Leeds swoop for left-sided flyer from Europe, top-flight competition - report
New Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is keen on Martinique left-back Manuel Cabit, according to a report.
The Mirror’s Live transfer blog (13.48) have claimed that he wants to bring the 25-year-old defender to Elland Road from Ligue 2 side AC Ajaccio.
However, he will face a lot of heavy competition from Lens and Metz, along with Ligue 1 side Montpellier.
Football Insider verdict:
This could be interesting. Not a lot is known about Cabit but he seems to have a number of clubs after him, including Ligue 1 side Montpellier. Leeds fans can expect to be linked with a whole host of players this summer, and knowing Bielsa, a load they won’t have heard of before. However, the left-back position is one where they need more cover. Laurens De Bock was a complete flop last season and he’s likely to be moved on. That would leave Tom Pearce and Tyler Denton, neither of whom have a lot of experience. It was reported by the YEP that Brescia are keen on a move for Denton and that would mean that Leeds would be in the market for a new left-back. Cabit has only played 62 games though and is 25. There’s a lot that doesn’t add up about his career, unless he’s a slow starter. If the interest in him from Montpellier is genuine, that could well be the case. This summer, it’s going to have to be ‘In Bielsa we trust’ for Leeds fans, who have had to put up with their fair share of substandard overseas players in the past 12 months.
