Aston Villa have been hit with a “big blow” after defender Kortney Hause was ruled out for up to six weeks, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer admitted he was now hoping Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa would stay fit and available as Bjorn Engles does not have the legs required to deputise for them.
Dean Smith confirmed in his press conference before Villa’s 3-1 loss to West Ham United on Wednesday Hause would miss four to six weeks of action with a foot injury.
Hause, a former England Under-21 international, had not been in a matchday squad for four games before the visit of West Ham.
He had played four games before that as Konsa was missing with an injury and helped Villa keep three clean sheets and scored in their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
“I think it’s a big blow,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“It was just nice to know that if there were any injuries or suspension to Mings or Konsa then you’ve got a good back up there.
“I’ve said before about Engels not having the legs at the back.
“I’m just hoping that Konsa and Mings can get through the next four to six weeks when Hause will be back in contention.”
Hause moved to Villa Park on loan from Midlands rivals Wolves in January 2019 before the deal was made permanent when they sealed promotion to the Premier League the same summer.
He has played 43 games across all competitions for the Villains including their 2-1 triumph over Derby County in the Championship play-off final.
