‘Big surprise’ - Sky Sports pundit delivers verdict on Leeds start this season
By Derek Smithson
Tony Cascarino has stated that Leeds United have been the “big surprise” so far this season after a brilliant start to the Championship.
The Whites went into the international break third in the league table after going unbeaten in their opening five games, while also progressing through two League Cup rounds.
Thomas Christiansen has hit the ground running as manager since his summer arrival and is thriving during his first test of English football.
The Yorkshire giants narrowly missed out on the play-off positions last season and also sold their talisman Chris Wood to Burnley in the summer for £15million.
The striker scored 30 goals across all competitions during the last campaign and has left a huge void at Elland Road.

However, the Whites have added ay Roy-Grot, Caleb Ekuban, Pawel Cibicki and Pierre-Michel Lasogga as new forward options.
Sky Sports pundit Cascarino believes that Leeds will manage to cope without prolific goalscorer Wood and that they have been a big surprise so far this season.
“I do think Leeds have been the big surprise because they have lost Chris Wood, but I don’t think it’s going to affect them that much,” Cascarino told talkSPORT on Sunday morning. “He got a lot of big goals for them last year, but they have done their business in the transfer market. A lot of Leeds fans are very excited.”
Leeds return to action on Saturday with a home league clash against Burton and also host Birmingham just three days later during a busy schedule.
The Whites are managing to find goals from all over the pitch this season, with new signings Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski providing a goal threat from attacking areas.
They are also proving very solid defensively and have kept four clean sheets in their opening five league games.
