Danny Mills claims that the performances of Tottenham defender Danny Rose reflect the “biggest worry” of the Spurs fans this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Manchester City and England full-back says that the Lilywhites have failed to live up to their previous heights and that the left-back is the prime example of their disappointing displays.
The 29-year-old has played 10 times across all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino this season, sitting out Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Everton as a result of his five yellow cards in the Premier League.
Mills says that the 29-cap England international has been bang average for Spurs so far and that his displays mirror how the team have been getting on as a whole.
Speaking about Pochettino’s left-back options, Mills told Football Insider: “I don’t think there’s an awful lot between them. A couple of seasons ago they were rotated regularly for league games, Champions League games and all the rest.
“Danny Rose has been okay but nothing spectacular. I think that just mirrors and is a reflection of the team, they’ve been okay. They’ve not hit the heights they previously have.
“I think that’s the biggest worry for Spurs fans because they haven’t got to those levels that we have seen previously.”
Tottenham have won just three of their opening 11 Premier League games this season, against Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Southampton, with four draws and four defeats under their belt.
They suffered a shock League Cup defeat to Colchester on penalties and have started their Champions League campaign with a draw, a defeat and a victory.
In other Tottenham news, Danny Mills was left fuming after a “ridiculous” statement on one Spurs star.
