Birmingham, Plymouth and Huddersfield make moves to sign Marc Leonard – sources
Plymouth Argyle and Huddersfield have made enquiries about signing Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard, sources have told Football Insider.
However, Birmingham City have now turned their attention to the 22-year-old.
The Blues have moved to cut players from their wage bill while making progress with arrivals in higher-priority positions, leading them to intensify their interest.
In May, Football Insider revealed that Championship outfits Sheffield United and Hull City were both eyeing a move for the midfielder.
Now, three of the four newly relegated League One sides are looking to land his signature as they aim for promotion back to the Championship.
Birmingham City, Plymouth and Huddersfield race to sign Marc Leonard from Brighton
Leonard made 97 appearances for Northampton across two years on loan at the club from Brighton, helping them to promotion from League Two and stability in League One.
Able to play across the midfield, he has also represented Scotland from under-17 to under-21 level.
With the club’s progress up the divisions, he has taken the step up well and impressed potential suitors, with clubs keen to give him another shot at the third tier.
Huddersfield, Birmingham and Plymouth finished 23rd, 22nd and 21st respectively in the Championship last season and will turn to Leonard to help in their promotion bids.

Birmingham has been especially ambitious in the transfer market so far and hold an advantage over their rivals given their strong financial position.
Their late involvement in the race to sign him, with Plymouth and Huddersfield having already made contact, could now complicate a potential move.
In other news, Leicester City have agreed a £4million deal to sign a Chelsea player.
