‘Blimey, do I really want to work under that?’ – Sean Dyche to Nottingham Forest verdict

Sean Dyche should already have concerns about his job security at Nottingham Forest as he closes in on being appointed manager.

That is according to Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who exclusively told Football Insider that Sean Dyche should be unsure about working under Evangelos Marinakis at Nottingham Forest after Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou were each sacked in quick succession.

Dyche is closing in on the vacant head-coach role at Forest after Postecoglou’s tenure came to an end just 39 days on from his appointment following a 3-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday (18 October).

The Aussie boss did not win a single game in charge of the City Ground side as they dropped into 18th place, and the pressure now looks set to be on Dyche to turn their fortunes around for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign.

Le Tissier believes Dyche should be wary of Evangelos Marinakis

Football Insider revealed on Saturday that Dyche is ready to step in at Forest as they aim to move back up the table and progress into the latter stages of the Europa League this season.

An agreement is now in place for him to take over ahead of their clash against Porto on Thursday (23 October), with a contract until 2027 reportedly set to be signed.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Southampton striker Le Tissier admitted his surprise at Dyche being interested in the role due to Marinakis’ recent decisions, but insisted that he could be a good hire if they are aiming to avoid a shock relegation.

He said: “I guess if Marinakis is now of the opinion that Nottingham Forest are in a relegation fight, then obviously Sean Dyche is a pretty sensible guy.

“He’s had many years of experience in that department. And also his style of play is probably closer suited to Nuno’s than what Ange’s was. So from that perspective, that’s probably why they’ve gone down that route.

“If I was Sean, I’d be looking at the owner and going, blimey, do I really want to work under that? But obviously Sean’s been out of the game for a little bit now and perhaps feels like he might not get too many better chances than this back in the Premier League, so then that might be why he’s taking a risk of working for an owner like that.”

Dyche could get the best out of Chris Wood at Forest

If he is officially appointed, Dyche will become Forest’s third head-coach in little over a month, so it is clear that he would have his work cut out in terms of yielding positive results immediately.

The East Midlands side have won just one game so far this term, on the opening day of the campaign against Brentford, and star striker Chris Wood has been unable to carry on his excellent form from 2024-25 amid their struggles.

Wood hasn’t scored since that game, yet a reunion with Dyche at the City Ground could be exactly what he needs after the pair enjoyed their time together at Burnley between 2017 and 2022.

He netted double figures in four consecutive seasons for the Clarets, and Dyche praised Wood’s scoring ability and professionalism during that spell at Turf Moor, so will clearly fancy his chances of helping him rediscover his scoring form if he is handed the reins at Forest soon.
