‘Boggles my head’ – Ben Foster makes Ederson claim following Man City exit

Ben Foster has questioned Manchester City’s decision to let Ederson join Fenerbahce in the summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola reshuffled his goalkeeping options over the summer, as James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma joined Man City, whereas the Brazil international left the North West.

Ederson maintained 10 clean sheets in 26 Premier League appearances, but it was not enough to convince Guardiola to keep the 32-year-old at the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Man City were beaten by Brighton last time out and have now suffered two consecutive defeats in the top flight.

Ben Foster questions Man City over Ederson exit decision

Since Ederson moved to Fenerbahce, Guardiola’s men have conceded four goals in just three Premier League fixtures.

Meanwhile, speaking on the latest episode of Fozcast on Tuesday, 9 September, former Manchester United, Watford, and West Brom goalkeeper Foster said: “For some reason, Ederson’s not fancied anymore, which boggles my head a little bit because I still think Ederson’s got a lot to offer.”

The Brazilian could make his debut for Fenerbahce when they face Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday, 14 September.

Gianluigi Donnarumma will prove Pep Guardiola right

Guardiola’s decision to let Ederson leave appeared highly suspect when new signing, Trafford performed poorly as Man City were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham on 23 August.

However, Donnarumma has subsequently moved to the Etihad Stadium, handing the North West side an ideal replacement for Fenerbahce’s new boy.

The 26-year-old played a pivotal role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season, while he also helped the French Ligue 1 giants win their 13th top-flight title.

Donnarumma’s impressive CV, which includes the 2020 European Championship title, proves that he has the credentials to perform well in the Premier League.

Contrastingly, despite enjoying a remarkable promotion-winning season with Burnley in the Championship last term, Trafford has already struggled to re-adjust to the top flight.

Guardiola needs Donnarumma to reach his best form quickly, with Man City vying to get back to winning ways after suffering back-to-back defeats.

The former AC Milan star seemingly has what it takes to help his new club beat Manchester United on Sunday, 14 September.
