Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he won’t be signing his son Anton Rodgers despite playing for the Hoops on Wednesday.
The Bhoys boss invited his son to travel to Austria with the domestic treble winners and the 24-year-old had a trial run during the club’s pre-season friendly against BW Linz.
The central-midfielder came on as a substitute for the Hoops during their 1-0 win against the Rohrbach club.
Although Anton Rodgers played well, his father has made the emphatic decision not to sign the ex-Brighton and Swindon midfielder.
When speaking to the Evening Times the Celt boss said: “He has confidence to play. But it’s never been the notion to sign him, it’s just to give him a couple of weeks and then he can see where the next venture is.
“Anton has come with us to train and get in good condition for when the English seasons starts.”
In addition to his son, Brendan Rodgers’ new recruit Jonny Hayes made his friendly debut with the club after signing a £1.3million deal earlier in the month.
Hayes is currently the only signing the Hoops boss has made during the summer transfer window, but the manager will undoubtedly want to bolster his squad ready to retain the club’s domestic treble trophies.
The Bhoys might not have to wait too long to get their second summer signing though as HITC have reported that Ipswich youngster Kundai Benyu has passed a medical with the Glasgow club.
In other Celtic news, the club have received a major update in their reported pursuit of this 21-year-old attacker.
