Brennan Johnson: Nottingham Forest line up new contract talks after £18m Brentford bid rejected – Sources

Nottingham Forest are preparing new contract talks with Brennan Johnson after fending off interest from Brentford last month, Football Insider understands.

Forest rejected multiple bids, including a final one of £18million, for Johnson from the Premier League outfit in the recent window.

A City Ground source has told Football Insider that the club are now keen to sort out Johnson’s future and tie him to an extended deal.

The Wales international has a contract that runs until the summer of 2023.

Brentford retain an interest in Johnson and he has also been closely monitored by other top-flight clubs including Leeds United.

The west Londoners tabled a number of bids for the wide forward but could not force Forest to budge.

Brentford are believed to have grown frustrated at Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis for regularly moving the goalposts over Johnson during January.

However, that has not stopped the Bees in their pursuit of the promising winger.

The £18m offer eclipsed the £13.5m Brentford reportedly paid for record-signing Kristoffer Ajer last summer.

Johnson has caught the attention of the Premier League’s elite with his performances.

A versatile attacker who mainly plays out wide, Johnson has scored seven goals and contributed five assists in 29 Championship appearances this season.

Johnson’s form has seen him break into the Wales set-up, with seven caps so far.

He progressed dramatically last season while on loan at Lincoln City, where he scored 13 goals and supplied 14 assists across the campaign.
