Brentford ready to seal club-record signing ahead of January window
Keith Andrews are already preparing for a record-breaking winter transfer window after the latest decision from Brentford.
Brentford lost Bryan Mbeumo to Man United, while Yoane Wissa eventually forced through his move to Newcastle United, with concerns quickly emerging at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Although Dango Ouattara has made a bright start to life at Brentford following his club-record move [BBC Sport], the current squad leaves a lot to be desired for the rest of the 2025-26 campaign.
Brentford suffered a surprise defeat to Sunderland before the international break, seeing them fall to 15th in the Premier League table, only claiming a win against Aston Villa.
Brentford to return for eye-watering Max Beier deal
If current trends continue, the Bees may have to go back into the transfer market in January, and after failing to sign one of their former targets, the chance could reappear this winter.
Brentford saw their opening offer for Max Beier rejected by Borussia Dortmund, with the German giants turning down a club-record bid of £45million from the Premier League side.
With this occurring on transfer deadline day, there was very little time for the club to scramble together a new offer before the window slammed shut, leaving Andrews with his current squad.

Igor Thiago has now been joined by Reiss Nelson, on loan from Arsenal, through the middle, but that has done very little to help the Bees’ goal difference in the Premier League after three matches.
Keith Andrews making plans ahead of winter transfer window
Despite a rocky start to life at the Gtech, a club insider told iNews (10 September) that the squad is as strong as it has ever been, even after several high-profile exits this summer.
Insiders also see parallels with the Brentford side from 2019, who established themselves in the Championship, strengthening with the signings of David Raya, Mbeumo, and Christian Norgaard.
It is understood that the plan moving forward is very clear – take a bit of a risk and grow. That bodes well for the next transfer window, and given the club’s enthusiasm to sign Beier, a return for his signature would not be surprising.
The 22-year-old notched nine goals and five assists last season, and with the player already off the mark in the Bundesliga this term, his price tag is likely to rise even higher than the £45m offered in the summer.
