Brian Brobbey: Significant update on Nottingham Forest deal – sources
Nottingham Forest are unlikely to pursue a deal to sign Brian Brobbey before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Forest held talks with Ajax over a potential move, but they are unwilling to see him leave at this stage.
The Dutch outfit will demand a substantial transfer fee if they are to let him leave today, forcing Forest to consider other targets.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are looking to sign a striker before 11pm tonight (30 August) and are still exploring multiple options at this late stage.
Forest have seen deals for both Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez fall through in the late stages as they failed to agree terms with the players.
Nottingham Forest unlikely to land late deal for Brian Brobbey
Brobbey came through the academy setup at Ajax and has spent the majority of his career at the club despite a short spell with RB Leipzig in 2021-22.
Overall, his time in the Netherlands has seen him bag 50 goals and provide 19 assists in 125 games for his boyhood club.
Last season, he found the net 22 times in 43 games across all competitions, scoring 18 and providing 10 assists in just 30 league games.
This form put him on the radar of some of Europe’s top clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal earlier this summer, while Forest believed they could get a late deal done.
However, those hopes have now been dashed.
This has seen the saga drag on into the final day, causing a rush to find a new option at the City Ground.

Concerns surrounding Taiwo Awoniyi’s patchy injury record, as well as Chris Wood’s ability to lead the line for a full season, have forced Forest into the market.
Now, they look set to miss out on Brobbey as Ajax are reluctant to see him leave due to the short period of time remaining to find a replacement.
In other news, Forest fans were stunned by the latest Morgan Gibbs-White development.
