Bridcutt predicts Leeds v Brighton, lauds impact of international ace

By Will Butcher

Liam Bridcutt is confident Leeds can secure all three points against Brighton during Saturday’s late kick-off between the two Championship high flyers.

Bridcutt, 27, is set to wear the armband once again for Garry Monk’s side in the middle of the park against Brighton, after spending four years with the Seagulls between 2010 and 2014.

Speaking to Sky Sports’ EFL Weekly podcast which was posted on their official Twitter account, Bridcutt believes Leeds stand a chance of securing victory against his old side.

The former Sunderland midfielder also heaped praise on New Zealand international Chris Wood, who currently tops the Championship’s goalscoring charts with 22 goals.

“You always want to do well against your former side,” Bridcutt said. “It’ll be a difficult game, but if we stick to our game plan we can get a result.

“All credit to Woodsy, he’s knuckled down this season and started doing what he does best, scoring goals. He was under a difficult patch last season, but he’s come out fighting.

“He’s helped us massively, he’s always been confident but he’s a great character and a lot of us look up to him.”

Bridcutt amassed 151 league and cup appearances during his time on the coast with Brighton, before joining Sunderland and then Leeds.

The combative midfielder has come up against his old side just once since leaving, which was a 4-0 Leeds defeat last season at the Amex Stadium.

However, Leeds’ number 26 is confident that the Whites can get revenge on their 2-0 defeat to Chris Hughton’s side earlier this season, which Bridcutt missed because of a broken foot.

Currently in fourth, Leeds can consolidate their play-off position with a 21st league win of the season and close the gap on third placed Huddersfield to just two points.

In other Leeds news, here are three reasons why the Whites should look to re-sign this midfield ace.
