Brighton have found ‘perfect’ Alexis Mac Allister replacement as ‘full agreement’ reached – Agbonlahor

Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed James Milner is the “perfect signing for Brighton” as they prepare to lose in-demand duo Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo this summer.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 37-year-old’s experience will be vital for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Sources told this site last week (19 May) that Brighton have reached a full agreement to sign Liverpool’s Milner when his contract expires next month – despite interest from Leeds United.

The Champions League winner and three-time Premier League champion is set to bring a wealth of experience with him to the south coast after making 618 top-flight appearances in a trophy-laden career.

Brighton booked their place in next season’s Europa League with a 1-1 draw at home to Premier League champions Manchester City on Wednesday night (24 May).

De Zerbi will now look to strengthen his squad for the 2023-24 season and the added demands of playing in Europe.

“Brighton are trying to do their business early,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve got so many players potentially going out, with Caicedo and Mac Allister looking like they are going.

“It just makes sense for Milner to come in. He can do a similar job to Lallana.

“Two experienced pros who have been there and done it, they can come in when needed as backups or squad players.

“I think it’s the perfect signing for Brighton. They’re in Europe next season, and Milner and Lallana’s experience in Europe is going to help them.”
