Chris Sutton has proclaimed the new Celtic deal for Tom Rogic as “brilliant business”.

Celtic announced that they’d signed up Rogic on a new five-year deal which will keep him in the Hoops until 2023.

The news was announced on the official Celtic Twitter page on Thursday evening.

Chris Sutton posted his message on his personal Twitter page, commending Celtic for “brilliant business” in securing the key player for the long-term.

Football Insider verdict:

Sutton is right, this is brilliant business by Celtic and a huge boost ahead of the Scottish Cup final. Rangers and Steven Gerrard have been making all the headlines in the past few days, as they’re linked with a number of big-name signings, including Jermain Defoe and Dominic Solanke. But this is concrete and Rogic is a player who’s about to show off what he can do in the World Cup finals with Australia. Getting him tied down to a new contract means Celtic fans can relax and watch him over the summer without worrying that a good performance is going to lead to bids and the player having his head turned. Rogic has provided key goals at the right times this season, despite missing a load of games through injury. He loves playing against Rangers – four of his nine goals came in Old Firm games, and he’ll be back to haunt Rangers again now for the next five years.
