Jonjoe Kenny has heaped praise on David Unsworth ahead of Everton’s Europe League tie against Atalanta on Thursday night.
In the press conference ahead of the Atalanta game, the young defender complimented the caretaker manager for being important to his improvement.
He said: “He has been brilliant for me, trusted me and played me in the past five games, so I cannot thank him enough for that.”
The right-back has seen the majority of his game time come during Unsworth’s short reign, though Ronald Koeman did hand the defender his first start in the Premier League against Arsenal.
The Arsenal game ended up being Koeman’s last, but Unsworth opted to keep Kenny in the first team set-up.
However, the 20-year-old despite featuring in five Premier League games is yet to help the Toffees register a clean sheet.
Kenny is not the first Everton defender to endorse Unsworth, as the Toffees continue to hunt for a manager to succeed Koeman, with Leighton Baines praising the caretaker boss after the Watford victory.
The 3-2 victory against Watford is Unsworth only win to date, having lost three games and drawn 2-2 to Crystal Palace.
The Watford victory was also one of only three league victories for the Toffees so far this season, with the lack of wins seeing them sit 16th in the Premier League.
The Toffees are next in league action on Sunday taking on 14th placed Southampton.
