'Brilliant' - Exclusive: Bent in awe of barely-seen West Brom player who 'Ran all over' West Ham
Darren Bent was left blown away by the performance of West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry in the club’s FA Cup win over West Ham.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aston Villa and England striker says that the veteran “ran all over” the Hammers at the London Stadium in what ended as a 1-0 win for the Baggies.
Barry was making only his fifth appearance of the season on Saturday, with Conor Townsend’s goal giving the Championship side the victory over their Premier League counterparts.
Bent says that despite being 38-years-old – 17 years older than West Ham midfielder Declan Rice – Barry ran the show in the middle of the park in east London.
Bent told Football Insider: “He ran all over them. Him and Chris Brunt were brilliant on Saturday, ran all over them.
“Gareth Barry; organisation, working hard, organising people. Back to front, they were brilliant. Slaven Bilic has got to be so proud of his team. A lot of people would have been thinking they’ll get beat.

Barry, who put pen to paper on a short-term contract earlier in the season after his old deal ran out in the summer, has been used sparingly by manager Slaven Bilic during the Baggies’ push for promotion back to the top flight.
He has played just three times in the second tier this campaign, only once being named among the starting XI, while he has been left as an unused substitute a further seven times.
In other West Brom news, it can be REVEALED the club have agreed terms to sign a £6million forward.
