'Brilliant professional' - David Bates raves about new Rangers signing

Rangers defender David Bates has been raving about playing alongside Russell Martin at the heart of the Gers’ defence and believes he can “learn so much” from the 32-year-old centre-back.
Martin completed a loan move from Norwich City earlier this month and has starred alongside Bates in central defence in the Gers’ last two games following Danny Wilson’s move to Colorado Rapids.
The former Norwich captain has 29-caps for Scotland and has played over 300 games for the Canaries so brings a wealth of experience to the Gers’ back four.
Bates believes the pair have played well together in their two games so far and thinks Martin is a “brilliant professional” who can help him improve.
“Russell Martin is a brilliant professional, can learn so much from him,” Bates said, as quoted by the Gers’ official Twitter account.
“I have spoken to him quite a lot and think we have done well in our games together.”

Bates has played in the Gers’ last three games after replacing Bruno Alves early in the 0-0 Old Firm draw on December 30th and winning rave reviews for his performance against Brendad Rodgers’ side.
The former Raith Rovers defender is out of contract at the end of the season and will be hoping for a run in the first-team to prove to manager Graeme Murty and director of football Mark Allen that he is worthy of extended terms with his boyhood heroes.
Bates joined Rangers in 2016 on a development loan before agreeing a permanent switch last January after impressing in Graeme Murty’s Under-20 side.
The Kirkcaldy-born defender has made 16 appearances for the Light Blues first-team since making his debut towards the end of last season.
In other Rangers news, Oli McBurnie raved about this Light Blues player after the win against Ross County on Sunday.
